Guidelines against harassment.

We are all responsible for creating room for each other’s voices to be heard, regardless of age, sex, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, ability, position, or power. Our guidelines are expectations to anyone that is associated with Hamar Medieval Festival through being participants, volunteers, merchants, or part of management.

The law forbids harassment. Harassment includes, but is not restricted to, actions, omissions, or expressions that have either the intention or effect of being violating, intimidating, hostile, degrading or humiliating. Sexual harassment includes, but is not restricted to, any form of unwanted sexual attention that either have the intention or effect of being violating, intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or bothersome.

Our ethical guidelines:

1.  We will treat each other with respect and stop any form of bullying, abuse of power, racism, harassment, discrimination, and sexual harassment. HMF will be a safe festival where the integrity and boundaries of each individual are respected.

2. Be open to feedback regarding own language and behaviour.

3. Physical contact, behaviour, and suggestive language that other people might experience as sexually violating is not to occur. Avoid situations that other people may experience as unsafe or unwanted.

4. Everyone associated with the festival, and especially those trusted with positions of authority within the historical community and HMF, will act out of awareness of the level of power and level of influence that they have in relation to others, and not abuse the trust they have by virtue of their position or their title, so that the imbalance of power is not exploited.

5. Offences against the law or cases of sexual assault will be reported to, and investigated by, the police.

6. Alcohol may increase the risk of harassment and sexual harassment. Where alcohol is involved, both the organizers and the participants have an increased responsibility to avoid breaches of the ethical guidelines.
